We’ve been meaning to post about this beautiful feast for the senses that goes by the name of Kuriosas for some time now. Penned by an old friend (who I hold responsible for many of the best introductions that I’ve had in life), this is one highly recommended companion for anyone who deems themselves curious.

Run by a London/ Berlin collective of artists and designers, Kuriosas reads like a mindmap of thoughts and finds lovingly hunted and gathered from near and far. There are all manner of visual and aural delights to explore, from vintage illustration and book covers, Eastern European ephemera, kitsch 20th century design, photography and more, all foraged from their adventures, whether that be a chance encounter at a Polski service station or a cold fleamarket in Berlin.

No art and culture snobbery here, this is a show and tell of the most open-armed exuberance…expect the likes of jumping gnomes, felt tip artworks, and Soviet Union children’s books, it all makes for great fertiliser of the imagination.

We especially love this lady snapped by Ali Winstanley of the collective, when chanced upon at a service station in Katowice, Poland on-route to the Off Festival. What a wonderful geometrically adorned woman!

We don’t know what we like the most… the video montage of monochrome women with flashing red lips or the sophisticated pop sounds of Drive.

With an emphasis on sound and texture and with guitar hooks as lyrically heavy as the words, London-based band I Ching excite us.

Listening to Moral this morning.

Relatively unknown minimal synth 3-piece from Denmark. They supported Nico and Monochrome Set but were together barely 4 years with sadly only a couple of cassette releases and 1 LP release.

Short but very very sweet.

Had the pleasure of meeting the intriguing Chelsea Wolfe at La Route Du Rock festival in France at the weekend. Asides from being decidedly lovely, she makes decidedly great music. Music that can only be described as doom folk.

Oh that sweet and heady delight of a new discovery of what sounds like new music but is infact from three decades ago.

Netherlands based Nine Circles (Lidia Fiala and Peter Van Garderen) are exactly that. They released only one album in 1996 (self-titled), but the tracks were recorded back in 1982.

Here lies a killer icy synth-driven electro track of 80s euro post-punk minimal wave origins. Say that ten times in a row. Go on.

Rest assured this will be played at HyperMagicMountain next Thursday night.

Warmest Chord are feeling excited..

We will be gracing/ enchanting/ soiling the decks at HyperMagicMountain, a new and curious night that looks set to pepper the folk of London with strange wonder and considerable oddity.

Asides from talk of wizards, thrones, noise and harmony, Old Forest will be playing some good ol’ fashioned stoner sludge rock.

And with lyrics like this… “Bringing everyone down, never have much fun. Sorry it’s just how I am”, we think there are going to be some sickies pulled on the Friday.

This track is from their new album ‘Work (work, work)‘…out 9th September via Ghostly International. Comfortingly dark, hypnotic and repetitive, it’s bleakness surprisingly seductive.
